What even is an Infrared Sauna?

People have been incorporating saunas into their lives for thousands of years, cleansing their mind and body. Traditional saunas heat the environment with steam, stones, or smoke. As the environment heats, our bodies in turn react to the heat causing us to sweat. So what makes an infrared different?

Infrared saunas heat our bodies directly. Infrared waves exist outside the visible spectrum, so they are not visible to the human eye, instead we feel the heat. There are three types of infrared waves, near, mid, and far, each of them doing their part by penetrating your skin and heating you at the core.

Another benefit of an infrared sauna is that, because of their direct heat, the temperature can sit lower than in a traditional sauna. We keep our saunas at 135 degrees Fahrenheit for the 45 minute sessions that we offer, that is up to 65 degrees cooler than a traditional sauna while also being more effective.

Near-infrared waves will boost cell regeneration and skin health by activating collagen and elastin. With consistent use you may notice a reduction in fine lines as well as faster wound healing. Mid-infrared promotes the oxygenation and detoxification of our blood by improving blood circulation and sweating. Lastly, the far-infrared waves promote the deep sweat that leads to detoxification, weight loss, pain relief, and ease of joint stiffness.

Our saunas bring you the combination of all three. Our Sunlighten (Original) sauna features the ability to target certain benefits, like pain relief or detoxification, with different combinations of the three waves and different amounts of time ranging from 30 to 45 minutes. Since our bodies are not accustomed to infrared waves, it does take a few sessions in the sunlighten sauna to allow your body to learn how to sweat in response to them. As long as you maintain good hydration you will still receive full benefit.

In our Clearlight sauna, our newer one, you will notice a more intense sweat even during your first session. This is in part due to the addition of bulb heaters that create a dry heated environment. While you do not have the ability to select which waves are active during your session, you will be receiving the full spectrum of benefit. The Clearlight sauna also has a bluetooth speaker and LED light that are available for your use.

Both saunas here at Total Rejuvenation are going to provide you with the full Infrared benefit. Each person will find their preference along with their routine. We encourage everyone to try each one as they are getting started to make sure they are informed as they enter the world of infrared saunas.
